Wnd, flows soothngly through her har as she sts there, gazng out to sea. Poor darlng Abgal just lost all hope she had left towards a far lfe. She has fallen back to a tme of despar. Spanard's conquest has fnally rummaged what she had left to call home. Lttle Abgal, young age of thrteen, has seen enough n her lfe to to provde her wth the knowledge of any man n warfare.
She has wtnessed two massacres, frst durng an ndan rad that came to her home n the outskrts farmland of Cambrdge, the farms scorched and farmers left blood drenched. She escaped to Oxford, only nne years at the tme.
Oxford became home to her for the next four years before the Spanards came to clam the town. Now, Abgal sts on the deck of a small trade frgate, salng far to New Orleans, where France has establshed a hgh qualty cty. There, she s planned to be taken by an orphanage.
Several problems occur along the voyage. The Spansh set patrols along the route the trade shp has chosen. The merchant order hs crew to remove the Brtsh sals, and rase whte sals. Young Abgal was placed n the frst mate's cabn, where she spent each nght wth a blanket of slk and a feather flled pllow.
Abgal found each nght progressvely colder. The cabn was adjacent to the captan's, underneath the wheel at the stern. The captan often brngs lttle Abgal up on deck at dawn to help wth plannng the day's work. Each mornng, Abgal helps organze the ratons, plot courses, and count nventory.
Weeks go by, Abgal repeatng ths routne constantly. The captan became her closest frend, so close he was famly to her, a father. The merchant, however, ddn't lke Abgal, ddn't trust her. Ths led to several dsputes between hm and the captan, whch wasn't helpng moral of the crew.
Abgal rased sprts of crew members each day wth her smle, one sort of adore. Lookng at now, after all she has been through, wonderng what s gong on.
On a ary nght, lght breeze and a dm moon, the crew was fast asleep. Lurkng n the deep waters of the ocean lay a cunnng man, Capt. Olaf of the Revelaton, and hs men. Sttng, gazng upon the merchant's shp, watng to strke. The trade shp was farly stll, movng nch by each half hour passng. The crew was eager, ready to strke.
The sals of the Revelaton dropped, caught a gust of wnd, and were off to board the merchant. The Revelaton's helmsman maneuvered ther bow to the opposng bow of the trade shp, perfectly algned. Hooks were thrown lghtly to grp the starboard walls, the men heavng ther shp closer.
Once close, all was a matter of sneakng about. The band of, who most know prates, rummaged the crew quarters, fndng no man on deck. They ddn't leave very many men alve, for then those men could not scream for the others to rescue. They took all from the hold they could, as swftly as possble.
Whle loadng the cargo onto the Revelaton, lttle Abgal got curous, swearng n her head she was hearng whspers among'st the deck. She got up and crept to the cabn door, peekng out, fndng several barrels beng pushed over planks between the two shps. Abgal attempted to awaken the captan, though the man was n deep sleep.
Abgal ddn't gve up, shakng hm ferocously, slently screechng n hs left ear. Not able to make hs eyes open, she went back to the door, contnung to peer out the crack. She notced a man, slowly steppng towards the cabn, the moonlght reflect half of hm, the other merely shadow. Part of that shadow she made out as a large dagger, frmly grasped.
Her mmedate nstnct sent her flyng for the wndow, whch was ponted to the furthest part of the bow, over the sea, a small, wooden ledge that Abgal crawled onto and off to the sde of the wndow. She wated to hear a partcular sound. Floor boards creakng sounded, she contnued to wat. Not untl she heard the gurgles of a helpless man graspng for ar dd she shed tears and progressed around to the starboard wall.
The Revelaton was rght n front of her. Wth no buld up, Abgal leaped towards a wooden servce ladder on the sde of the shp. Mssng a grp, she slpped. Her foot caught a small, two nch lnng of decoratve red wood. From ther, she was able to move back to the ladder, and clmb to the deck of the Revelaton, where she found a slghtly empty cargo barrel to st n and wated out for the nght.

Abgal thought her plan was smart, though no t wasn't. Olaf found her, and threw her down n the brg, wth captured veterans and random fgures. There, she spent many months. She fought for food, for warmth, and at tmes, her lfe. Some men were rather sck, and tred to take advantage of her small sze, a mstake none made agan.
Not untl dscovered Abgal whle takng count of the men aboard The Revelaton, that was able to confront Captan Olaf.

spoke to hm, "Sr, that young grl s n no way a danger to ths shp."
" 'Aght then, Mr. Potter, take her nto your cabn f you so wsh. However, be watchng my shp's deteroraton rate from ths pont on very closely. s that understood, Mr. Potter?"
"Yes sr, shall keep a close eye on the lttle one."
proceeded down to the holdng cells, and approached hers. To no surprse, she was scared. At frst, she ddn't want to come close. Not untl she notced how passve a was keepng. She became comfortable wth me once she realzed before could possbly harm her, she'd have to get close frst.
Once we arrved at my cabn space, showed her where she could sleep. There was a feather fluffed pllow, soft and all, on top of a cotton weaved blanket over a comfy lar of large cargo sacks had taken from the hold. They once flled potatoes, whch, well the potatoes weren't necessary.
Nght was already on us when retreved Abgal from her holdng cell. had expected her to be sleepng well n her new bed. Though, as sat at my desk wrtng n my log journal, kept notcng her eyes starrng at me. f turned around to check, she'd close them. But knew she was lookng at me, stll scared.
When mornng arose over the horzon, awoke early for the day. put on a formal attre. Not a sut, though a classy button up whte shrt, and my black slacks. always looked formal.
Abgal must have fnally fallen asleep after had. She was defntely out of t. decded to leave her undsturbed and go topsde to greet the Captan.
" Mornng Captan."
" Morn' Mr. Potter. Dd the lttle one get a good rest last nght?"
" The lttle one s stll restng, Captan."
" Mr. Potter, notced a bundle of potato sacks went mssng last nght. Ths morn' looked over yonder there, saw me some flottn' potatoes. You got any dea how t'ose got there, Mr. Potter?"
" Yes captan. fgured that snce no men aboard ths shp eat potatoes, they weren't a necessty. Do you dsagree, Captan?"
" Mr. Potter, trust you enough to not queston your actons, but may ask where the potato sacks went to?'
" Yes Captan. used them to make a mattress of sorts for the young one n a corner of my cabn."
" A very pecular course of makng a bed, though no less then brllant. As long as she's not the one dumpng my food overboard, you and are n clear waters."
"Yes captan."
